Betty Lou Massmann

Betty Lou Massmann was born to Wiley and Marie Hopkins on May 13, 1927 in Deloit, Iowa. Betty's early childhood was spent at various railroad depot's where she would love to watch the trains come in. Her family eventually settled in Primghar, IA where she was raise and attended school. Betty was a 1944 graduate of Primghar High School. At the age of 21, Betty married Rahland Fischer on June 15, 1948 in Primghar. Betty and Rahland made their home in Calumet, IA where they had their three children: Gene, Linda and Janet. Throughout her life Betty held numerous jobs in Calumet, such as the grocery store, Post Office, elevator and taverns. On January 20, 1971, Betty married Charles Massmann of Marcus. Betty enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing cards with friends, dining out and visiting with family and friends. Preceding Betty in death were her parents, Wiley and Marie Hopkins, husband Rahland Fischer, sister Jackie Durlacher, and step-brother Everett Mobley. Survivors include husband Charles Massman; son Eugene Fischer and wife Bonnie of Cherokee, IA; daughters: Linda Fischer of Sioux Rapids, IA and Janet Johnson of Spencer, IA; five grandchildren: Ben (Pam) Cox, Stephanie Fischer, Nick (Jessica) Fischer, Ronda (Dave) Scovel, Misti (Justin) Jorgensen; six great-grandchildren: Anna and John Cox, Alex and Sam Jorgensen, Briggs Fischer, Sarah Scovel; and many loving relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday November 18, 2009 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa.

VISITATION
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa.
