February 24, 1928 — September 24, 2015

Betty June Goodburn, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Hammond) Shove, was born February 24, 1928, in Cherokee, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee where she attended school and graduated from high school. Following graduation, Betty worked for Royer's Jewelry and the local drugstore. On August 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Elmer Goodburn in Cherokee. They were blessed with two children, Karon and Bob. The family moved to the family farm near Marcus and Betty worked on the farm and helped raise their children. After retirement, she and Elmer moved from the farm into Marcus. Betty was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. She was also Women's Society Chair, Circle Chair, and a member of the Eastern Star. She had many hobbies which included crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing, cake decorating, ceramics, shopping, bowling, cooking, baking, decorating for the holidays, and playing cards. She also loved dancing and was known in high school days for her and her dancing partner to "clear the floor". She often commented that she wished that Elmer could dance. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and willingness to help people.
