August F. "Gus" Erickson, the son of Henry Elmer and Mable Irene (Swihart) Erickson, was born on May 14, 1942, in Hartington, NE. His childhood years were spent in Hartington where he attended school and graduated from Hartington Public High School in 1960. On September 12, 1965, Gus was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Garrett in Storm Lake, IA. Gus worked for Super-Valu Foods and eventually went to work for Fareway Grocery Stores in the meat department. This was the start of a career that would last 41 years.
