Arlene D. Cedar

December 26, 1933 — February 11, 2015

Arlene Dorothy Cedar was born on December 26, 1933, in Cleghorn, IA, to Lester and Grace (Gilbert) Kirchoff. Her family lived in the Cleghorn area, and she graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1951. She worked at Central Trust & Savings Bank in Cherokee before starting her family. She married Richard Cedar on September 10, 1955, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA. Arlene was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked hand in hand with her husband, building their family business. She enjoyed reading, tending to her flowers, feeding her favorite birds, and being a homemaker. One of her favorite pastimes was talking with family and friends on the phone. She loved traveling with her husband and friends. Her greatest joys in life were her family--attending their events and taking great pride in their accomplishments. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Arlene passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Grace Kirchoff; her husband, Richard, in 2009; a brother, Virgil Kirchoff, and sister, Alice Cedar; sister-in-law, Ruby Wester, and brothers-in-law, Vernon Wester, Maynard Cedar and Leonard Cedar. Survivors include one daughter, Lori and her husband, Charles 'Dude' Ganger III, of Cherokee, and three sons, Lance Cedar of Cherokee, Kevin Cedar of Larrabee, and Randy Cedar and his wife, Karin of Cherokee; her grandchildren, Ann (Cory Wolterman, Alecia Rapp, Kate Ganger, Charles Ganger IV, Jessica (Philip)Bieber; great-grandchildren, Emma and Caleb Wolterman, and Madison and Noah Rapp; Aunt Dorothy Clow; other relatives and a host of friends, including a special friend, Annette Meyer. In honoring and celebrating her life today, we find our peace and joy in knowing that Mom and Dad are celebrating their 56th Valentine's Day together after six years apart.
