Agnes M. Day

January 3, 1936 — May 26, 2017

Agnes Marie (Tippy) Day was born in Cherokee, Iowa on January 3, 1936. She attended Immaculate Conception Schools, and later earned her GED. In 1952, she married Robert Day, and their family soon grew to include seven children. The couple later divorced. Agnes was a devoted and busy mother while her children were growing up. She loved cooking them big breakfasts. Her children fondly remember some of her specialties, including ham loaf, cinnamon rolls, deviled eggs, and her cherry cheese cake was always a favorite at family gatherings. As her children grew, Agnes began working outside the home as well. She spent almost 25 years working as an aide on the wards at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee. She enjoyed playing cards--especially Pinochle, and loved having flowers around the yard. Special memories were always made at the annual family campout and monthly "BS" (brothers and sisters) supper. Agnes passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, having reached the age of 81 years, 4 months, 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Margaret Mogensen, Teresa Sefcik, and George Tippy, and her beloved dog, Lady. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jan Keegan of Sioux City, IA, Mary (Tom) Wardyn of Bayard, IA, Bobby Day of Cherokee, Joanne (Brian) Jenness of Marcus, IA, Jerome (Patsy) Day of Cherokee, Luke (Kris) Day of Le Mars, IA, and Jill (Danny) Gross of Waverly, IA; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Tippy of Cherokee and Pat Miller of Cleghorn, IA, and two brothers, Mike (Karmen) Tippy of Cherokee, and Joe (Pat) Tippy of Saukville, WI; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
