In Memory of

June Josephine Perrin

February 20, 1922 - September 7, 2019
From: Cherokee, IA

June will be remembered for her friendly smile.

June Josephine Andersen was born February 20, 1922 near Viborg, South Dakota, to C. August Andersen and Beatrice Gould Andersen; arriving on a cold winter day her mother said she was  “a ray of sunshine” so she named her June.

She grew up on a nice farm in South Dakota, her family lost the farm during the hard years of the depression, her father then worked various odd jobs as the family traveled across the country for almost 2 years, he then found permanent work at a factory in California, only to die of a heart attack a few months later. June and her mother traveled with only  a suitcase apiece, by train back to Cherokee where they worked in different homes for their room and board. June attended Wilson High School in Cherokee, where she worked in the office to pay for her tuition, graduating in 1939; and then worked as a bookkeeper for the Cherokee Daily Times until World War II started. June then moved to Texas to marry her high school sweetheart, Jack G. Perrin, who was in training for the Army Air Corps. They were married on February 28, 1943 in Alpine, TX. She worked as a secretary to Post Engineers in Texas and then California while Jack was overseas. After the war, she and Jack used his GI Bonus to start Perrin’s Fur Farm. She was the bookkeeper until her retirement. They had many adventures while growing the business and raising their five children.

She loved horses, playing cards and bowling; she bowled for more than 50 years and was even inducted into the bowling Hall of Fame. She especially loved her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

June was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Parrish of Cherokee. June is survived by her children: John (Donese) Perrin of Neosho, MO, Patty (Daryl) Miller of Omaha, NE, Jim (Brenda) Perrin of Cherokee, IA, and Diane (Chuck) Schmillen of Marcus; son-in-law, Tim (Pat) Johnson of Florida; 12 grandchildren: Michelle (Eric) Danielson, Col. Jack D. (Shannon) Perrin, Dr. Luke (Kristie) Perrin, Jim (Amy) Johnson, Beau (Amy) Rose, Judd (Natasha) Rose, Christopher (Melissa) Perrin, Lyndsay (Brent) Wolfswinkel, Jamie (Brett) Roof, Nancy (Trent) Ruhland, Matthew (Tonia) Schmillen, Steve (Ashley) Schmillen, and 34 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law: Kathi McGowan of Lincoln, NE, Barb Perrin and Dorothy Perrin of Cherokee.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack in 2010; a daughter, Nancy Johnson; grandson, Michael Schmillen; son-in-law, Buck Miller; her four brothers, Dwight, Harold, Leslie, and Merle Andersen and their wives.

“"Another angel gained her wings!" Words seem inadequate to express our sympathy, love and prayers to the precious family of June and Jack Perrin. We were so blessed to journey with June while back in Iowa caring for my parents. June and Mother were true "soul mates" and for a couple years they were together daily for friendship and support. June was our "highlight of the day" and such a faithful friend. My heart is filled with gratitude for her and for her beautiful family. John and Denise, Jim and Brenda, Diane and Chuck and Patty and your families, we were so blessed to meet you through June's loving stories and sharings of you and then had the privilege of meeting you all in person. Hold sacred all that June held sacred. Her life has not ended, it has changed. She is closer to you now than ever so let her be your strength and be at Peace sharing with her in your heart now...she is always present and with you now as is your dad, Jack and sister, Nancy. Thanks for sharing June and yourself with us. We are on this journey together to walk each other home. We love you!”

“My deepest condolences to the entire family of June Perrin. Some of my earliest memories of June are riding behind her on her horse, Taffy! She always made my sisters & I feel so welcome and loved when we visited both Jack & June as young kiddos! June will be missed by many, myself and my family included! I’m grateful for the memories I carry in my heart of June. Her smile was infectious!
What a reunion she’s having now in her eternal life! May God bless the family of June Perrin.
