Bartolo Apolinar Bustos, the son of Pedro and Eutimia (Rodriguez) Bustos was born August 24, 1953 in Tetipac Gro, Mexico. His childhood years were spent in Mexico where he received his education. At the age of 22, Bartolo set off on a journey to experience the American dream. He became a United States resident and lived in Texas where he fulfilled his dream of being a farmer and working his horses.
On May 9, 1983, Bartolo was united in marriage to Leticia Rivera in Mexico. They were blessed with 5 children. Following their marriage, they moved to Chicago where he trained to be a chef. He cooked at Pindos, Archview, and Eppel’s Restaurants. In 2000, the family moved to Alta, IA for a short time before moving to Cherokee, IA the following year. Bartolo worked for Tyson Foods until its closing.
Bartolo will be remembered as a kind man who above all loved his family and friends. He would do anything for anyone and helped when he could. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, basketball, baseball, and restoring old cars.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Bartolo passed away unexpectedly near Quimby, IA. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Leticia Bustos of Cherokee, IA and five children; Amanda Bustos and husband, Tony, and two children; Pedro Bustos and significant other, Jacoba, and two children; Ricardo Bustos and his three children; Emanuel Bustos and significant other, Samantha; and Jesus Bustos.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA.
