In Memory of

Ruth Ann Tippy

August 17, 1937 - March 10, 2019
From: Cherokee, IA

Ruth Ann Tippy, the daughter of Roy and Marie (Fuhrman) Tippy, was born in Cherokee, IA on August 17, 1937. She attended I.C. Catholic Schools, and graduated with the class of 1956. Following graduation, Ruth attended X-ray and Lab School in Minneapolis. Her first job was working as a lab technician in Ames, IA. She also worked in X-ray and lab in Colorado for five years. Eventually, she moved back to her home town, and headed the X-ray department at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for many years. Unfortunately, her health forced her into early retirement.

Ruth enjoyed sewing reheatable rice bags; she made thousands of them over the years, and it gave her great joy to give them away. She enjoyed spending time with her faithful companion, Charlie—a mixed Fox Terrier who was a very important part of her life. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, Ruth passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.

Survivors include her brothers: Joe (Patricia) Tippy of Saulkville, WI, and Mike (Karmen) Tippy of Cherokee, IA, and sister, Pat Miller of Cleghorn, IA; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.

“I am sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. She was a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful woman. I first met her when I came to Perry, IA as the 4-6 Elementary Principal. I was looking for a place to live and she just bought a duplex and saw me getting out of the car to look at the place she just moved out of across the street. She yelled at me and told me to come over and look at the one she had for rent. I did and because of that, I had a new friend for life. Ruth took care of me like I was her own relative and made sure I always had what I needed. I mowed and shoveled the drive so she didn't have to do those things. She also made sure I had one of her homemade rice bags, which was great and I used all the time. Ruth will be missed but never forgotten because I know she left so many great memories with so many people.”
