Edward Eugene Richards

March 26, 1948 - October 6, 2018
From: Cherokee, IA

Edward Eugene Richards, the son of Roy and Lenora (Luccki) Richards was born March 26, 1948, in South Bend, IN. His childhood years were spent in South Bend where he attended school and graduated from John Adams High School.

On June 17, 1967, Edward was united in marriage to Linda Miller in Mishawaka, IN. Following their marriage, Edward was drafted and served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his tour, he was in the Army Reserves for 23 years. Edward and Linda made their home in Mishawaka, where he worked at a company that made Reese Hitches.  They moved to Iowa, where they spent nine years before returning to Indiana to care to Linda’s elderly parents. In 2010, they moved to Cherokee.

Edward enjoyed collecting guns, making knives, collecting coins, and doing yard work. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping. He taught his children and grandchildren gun safety, how to fish, and how to respect the land. Most of all, Edward enjoyed spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.

On October 6, 2018, Edward passed away at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lenora Richards; and four infant grandchildren, David Matthew, Colton Eugene, Caleb Matthew, and Mackenzie Lynn.

“We are so sorry for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather. To me personally Uncle Bud was a rare authentic genuine person you just don't come across in life. He had good moral character and he cared deeply for family and friends. He was a teacher an example a role model and someone we all could truly admire. His smile lit the room and his humor was contagious. I am honored to have had such an Uncle. May he be whole again with God and watch on us all with favor. Love, Missy.”
